Jean Littlejohn

The Lutterworth Embroiderers Guild were very fortunate to have Jean Littlejohn teaching.
I think most of the class managed to finish their morning piece - which was a small stitched picture that we then embellished.  For me it was a first with an embellisher and Jean generously let us use her machine.
The second piece was stitched with a more open weave fabric than many of us were used to sewing with. Jean generously provided this fabric that was dyed and she also provided a size 14 Chenille needle - again much larger than we were used to, but the big eye enabled us to use a thinker thread to fill the space. We then bond webbed and foiled over the stitches,
So - a great class.
Here are some photos from the day:

Dressing Queen Elizabeth I

The Lutterworth Embroiderers Guild hosted a talk by The Tudor Tailor: Dressing Elizabeth I.
It was a fascinating talk by very knowledgeable ladies.
I hope the photos taken by our member Jan Baker convey what an amazing time we had and the details of the dresses worn.

Talk: Bren Boardman, 26th February 2015

Bren Boardman is a surface design artist born in the Scottish Borders on the East Berwickshire Coast.  After a career in marketing, she studied Art and Design at Heriot Watt and Loughborough Universities, graduating with a First Class BA (Hons) in Printed Textiles.

Bren, a keen gardener, is renowned for her distinctive combination of texture and vivid colours with fabric, screen print, hand painting and stitch.  The Cottage Garden Series is a collection of original, contemporary pictures and printed cards depicting English garden flowers, shrubs and trees across the seasons.  She has a studio in her Warwickshire garden.

In her talk, Bren described how she designs her work from her initial idea to sketchbook to finished pictures. Bren's numerous examples of her work were passed around to enable them to be looked at close up.

Thanks to Ann and Kate for the photos provided of the evening.

Christmas meeting 2014

Elaine Sutton who won the Brenda Gibbs Bursary in 2013 talked about the Kick Start Workshop she had attended about "fold up" pictures in preparation for her project for 2015 Kick Start Nursery "Rhymes and Fairy Tales".

This was followed by a Label Making session when all members made a Christmas Label.

The evening was rounded off by an enjoyable buffet kindly supplied by the LEG Committee.
